Yoga Therapy

What is your body telling you?

Gaining insight and awareness into your life and mind can be done simply by listening to and focusing attention into your body’s innate wisdom. From how to make decisions, how to settle inner conflict, how to rest, how to eat and how to be ~ our bodies have all the answers. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) is a practice to help develop the skills to listen, in a state of equanimity and presence, to what your body is telling you.

“Because of the interrelatedness of all things, the physical body can be seen as a reflection of the mind. Therapy can be body-centered in the sense of using the body as a royal road to the unconscious.” ~ Johanson and Kurtz

PRYT is a yoga-based form of bodywork offered in a supportive, one-on-one session. It facilitates a focused, moment-by-moment awareness to gain insight into your bodymind, emotions and your life. Using assisted yoga postures and non-directive dialogue developed by psychologist, Carl Rogers, you have the opportunity to explore aspects of yourself and your life, while also possibly experiencing physical, psychological and/or emotional releases in a safe, non-judgmental space. It can result in greater awareness, understanding and self-acceptance. No yoga experience is necessary.

“Phoenix Rising is unique in the world of Yoga Therapy for several reasons, two of which seem the most noticeable. While other Yoga therapies are more physically therapeutic, PRYT is more psychologically therapeutic, while still being a body-oriented practice. And while other methods are prescriptive in nature, PRYT relies on empowering individuals to recognize and identify their own abilities to create and enact positive life change from the inside out.”  ~ Elissa Cobb

For the last ten and eleven years, I’ve had both a personal meditation and yoga practice, respectively. They have been the thread that carried me through challenging times. Now, challenging times are more like small bumps. Both of these practices have catalyzed change within me and in my life and, without fail, have created harmony in my mind, body and spirit.

Looking back to the time before I started practicing, it seems shocking to see the difference in me and my life. This change was both immanently positive and gradual. What I love about PRYT is that this insightful 90-minute journey can facilitate deep and profound personal transformation much more quickly, if that’s what I’ve wanted. I continue my yoga and meditation practice to support what I learn about myself from receiving and giving PRYT sessions.

“A new field of medicine … psychoneuroimmunology …is no less than the science of the interactions of mind and body, the indissoluble unity of emotions and physiology.” ~ Gabor Maté
